You are doing all the things your doctor told you to do. You’ve cut back on the booze, you’re eating healthy, you even bought an expensive gym membership and got yourself a private trainer. But you still can’t lose the flab! What is going on? What are the Causes of Weight Gain?. This is a story that is all too common these days. People are actively trying to lose weight by increasing their physical exercise levels and watching their diets but they are getting little to zero results. The answer to this frustrating problem might be coming to us from a very unlikely source. The problem might be that it isn’t a matter of WHAT you are doing, but rather WHERE you are doing it.
There is a condition well understood by medical researchers called SITUATION SPECIFIC TOLERANCE or SST. SST was first noticed in the 1970’s by researchers investigating drug overdoses, specifically, overdoses caused by intravenous heroin use. The problem they were trying to solve was to find out why drug users were dying after taking their regular dose or in many cases LESS than their regular dose.
OK, that’s interesting, but what has that got to do with why I can’t lose weight even though I’ve started going to the gym?. Well, the same thing is happening to you. We all live where we live. We do the same things day after day. We all build up our own SITUATION SPECIFIC TOLERANCES and no matter how hard we work at changing ourselves, either mentally or physically, real change is almost impossible to achieve UNLESS YOUR EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT CHANGES. Have you ever noticed how different you feel during the first few days of a holiday, especially a holiday in a new country? You feel hyper alert and really mentally clear. Hundreds of new idea’s run through your brain. What you are experiencing is actually a physiological phenomena related to SITUATION SPECIFIC TOLERANCE. It isn’t a mental thing, it is actually a physical change that happens to your central nervous system that occurs when your body finds itself in a new environment.
What the investigators discovered was very interesting. In almost 100% of the cases where a regular user fatally overdosed, it was found that the user had used the drug in a location and/or environment outside of where they normally would consume the drug. What they realized was that something as seemingly simple as a change in the users external environment had such a profound physiological effect on the body that what had previously been a tolerable amount of heroin could now become a deathly fatal dose.
Now here is the really good news. This “shock to the system” is an exploitable loop hole you can use to fast track your way to better health and very fast weight loss. The body is a devious mechanism. It really doesn’t like change. In fact it hates change and that is why it is so hard to lose weight. The only way any of us really have a reasonable shot at getting control over our weight and health is by doing something out of the ordinary and honestly, the easiest and most effective way to do that is to take yourself somewhere new. In order to lose weight in a timely but SAFE way we need to accurately blend three key ingredients. These ingredients are a) A changed/new physical environment/location b) Proper diet c) Correct exercise. If just one of these ingredients is missing or incorrectly applied, we aren’t going to lose meaningful weight.
Justin Footit heads the respected Weight Loss For Men Thailand, a weight loss program based in Thailand’s northern capital of Chiang Mai. He is a renowned weight loss expert and he says “The key to weight loss, and the reason why most weight loss programs don’t work, and why hiring a personal trainers is usually a waste of time and money is because finding that blend of diet and exercise that produces genuine effective weight loss is actually a very hard thing to do. Managing and then exploiting the shock to the system that comes with a new environment and then working in appropriate diet and exercise plans is something that needs to be done on a very personal level one on one with the client. I’ve been doing this for almost 25 years and I am still refining my procedures. I don’t want any clients to lose muscle mass on their weight loss journey, if anything, I want them to GAIN muscle mass. It’s a delicate balancing act. But yeah, the key is getting that blend of external location, diet and exercise right. It’s both an art and a science. What we do here is very effective. It works and we’ve NEVER had a client NOT lose a significant amount of weight”.
At the end of the day people need to prioritize and focus on what is important. Our own PERSONAL HEALTH is the most crucial thing in our lives. Without it we have nothing. The good news is that you have (or you CAN have) complete control over it if you DECIDE to. People are scared of change and it’s just normal human nature to put things off until tomorrow, but one day, tomorrow will be too late. If you are a male over the age of 40 and you have weight issues, your days are numbered, that is simply a medical FACT. In closing, if you decide you want to make a change, start small. Don’t try and reinvent yourself overnight. Just make one small change to your life every week and stick to it. Incremental advancement is the key to genuine transformation.
